The Old Dominion Squadron has restored and now operates a twin .50 cal. machine gun turret, built by the Glenn L. Martin Co. with a General Electric electrical system. When aircraft-mounted, the power operated turret was installed on the top deck of various bombers, primarily the B-26 Marauder and A-20 Havoc, to defend against attacking fighters. The Old Dominion Squadron Martin dorsal turret is mounted on a utility trailer and is powered by a 1.5 kW DC generator set with a Continental Motors Corp. engine. The turret is displayed and operated at air shows and at Squadron events. It has been a big hit for young and old alike.
Our POC for the Martin Dorsal Turret is COL Ed Lucas. |
